Padraig Deighan, PhD

Instructor in Microbiology, Harvard Medical School

I am originally from Ireland where I obtained a B.A. (Natural Sciences) from Trinity College Dublin. Following two wonderful research experiences in Sweden (Byström lab, Umeå Universitet and Flock Lab, Karolinska Institutet) I returned to Trinity College and completed my Ph.D. with Dr. Charles Dorman on the topic of nucleoid-associated proteins in bacteria. I joined the Hochschild lab a few years ago (2004!) to pursue my long-standing interests in the protein-protein interactions that underpin prokaryotic transcription. I am currently working with a team of undergraduate student-scientists to discover and characterize the binding determinants for RNA polymerase-associated proteins. Outside the lab, I enjoy watching any and all sports and coaching youth soccer.
